18in by 12in relief print in black ink on Japanese rice paper
Text reads; Abolish I.C.E. / No Sympathy for the State
This was carved and printed in Grand Rapids, MI as a response to the growing militarized I.C.E. presence disappearing people off the streets in places like Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and New York City.
The print depicts a burning cop car with a young Muslim college student being searched who has had her books and notes thrown from her bag. A female figure is held back by an officer from her child with a school backpack who is being dragged away. A family with a fruit cart, a father and two daughters hold each other while community members form a human chain to protect them from the chaotic and violent scenes happening above them. Graphics reminiscent of Mexican papel decorations adorn the borders of the block print.
